A State of Dance
Prosxima Dance Company has initiated a pioneering research program in Greek Public Universities. Initially hosted in 2024–2025 by the University of Patras, Department of Theatre Studies and School of Medicine, and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Theatre Studies. In 2026, it is being hosted by the Universities of Thessaly and Crete, Department of Early Childhood Education, bringing inclusive dance into the realm of academic research and pedagogical training, reclaiming that the art of dance belongs to all bodies regardless of their physicality.
The kick-off workshop οn 24.10.2025 was initiated with an amazing sharing of Ann Cooper Albright's methodology, featuring an inclusive dance workshop led by Albright herself—a renowned dance scholar, choreographer, Professor and Chair of the Dance Department at Oberlin College in the USA, and author of books including 'Choreographing Difference: The Body and Identity in Contemporary Dance'.
From March 12th to 15th 2026, the project continues with a series of three dance workshops inspired by the creative process of the work 'Hounds of Madness'. Following its premiere at the Archaeological Museum of Thebes—as part of the Ministry of Culture’s 2025 program 'All of Greece One Culture'—the work travels to the University of Thessaly. There will be an open presentation of the workshops on March 15th, from 12:00 to 14:00, at the University’s 'Tholos' building. Co-organized by the Department of Early Childhood Education, University of Thessaly."
Action implemented with the support John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation in the framework of "Points of Support", a co-funded programme by 10 public benefit foundations.
